![]() ![]() Disney had previously hinted that Encanto stuff could be coming here. Yes, the space in question is what lies beyond Big Thunder Mountain. Still, Disney suggested that a new part of Magic Kingdom is being developed. Park officials have learned their lesson from their past mistakes. And, as I already stated, plans sometimes collapse.įor this reason, Disney didn’t come out and guarantee that any of this stuff was happening for sure. Obviously, such progress takes time, though. According to Disney, it has more theme park projects in development than at any time in its history. Let’s start with what we DO know for sure. Instead, it provided cruel teases of what’s to come…maybe. We’re talking about the kind that makes you want to stop what you’re doing, pack a bag, and head to Orlando.Īs was the case last year, Disney didn’t confirm specifics, though. Okay, now we’ve reached the “trust but verify” section.ĭisney mentioned some absolutely tantalizing future park improvements. So, we’ve reached a crossroads here, and Destination D23 should have provided guidance. That hasn’t been true of Walt Disney World in more than 15 years. Once Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens, there’s pretty much no new attraction or themed land in the offing. While we don’t talk about the issue much, the reality is that Walt Disney World runs out of new projects next year. Some of what Disney discussed today is all but certain to happen, but until someone breaks ground, it remains theoretical.Īs theme park analysts know all too well, even confirmed projects like the Mary Poppins ride often fall by the wayside due to happenstance. About This Year’s Parks PanelĪfter last year’s vaporware presentation, we should all employ a “trust but verify” kind of scrutiny to this year’s announcements. What did we learn? Here are a few thoughts about the Destination D23 Parks Panel wherein Disney confirmed some things but hinted at MUCH bigger projects. Still, we had high hopes for this presentation in the wake of Disney CEO Bob Iger promising $17 billion in Walt Disney World expansions over the next decade. Historically, Destination D23 hasn’t provided as many big reveals as its Anaheim counterpart. We didn’t learn much by way of officially confirmed projects. Whichever way ya slice it, it’s starting to look extra unlikely that Guardians of the Galaxy will open before October 1st.In other words, they were theoretical rather than tangible. The fact that it may not happen until later this year could seal the ride’s fate as delayed. Obviously, filming these scenes in a necessary step before the ride can open. Yes Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Disneyworld is also on the agenda. That’s a pretty big component in this ride’s creation! He clarified that the scenes were “on the agenda” for his 2021 schedule, but it’s all a matter of when - and Gunn hasn’t announced that exact timeline. James Gunn, director of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, took to Twitter to confirm that the show scenes for the attraction haven’t been filmed yet. And now, we’ve got another sign that we may have to wait a bit longer than planned. While construction is making progress, there’s lots to be done before this exciting new attraction is ready to debut. Concept art depicts the load area for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
